Procedure for Obtaining a Personal Surety (Sign Out) Bond 

(Also sometimes referred to as a "Signature Bond" or a "Recognizance Bond")

This Office WILL process requests for:

  • First Time Arrestees

This Office WILL NOT process requests for:

  • Violent Crimes
  • Weapon Offenses
  • Sex Offenses


Proposed personal surety must be:

1. A Louisiana resident (verified by a Louisiana Driver’s License or Louisiana State ID).

2. Over 25 years of age.

3. Free of ANY criminal history and have NO outstanding arrest warrants. A background check will be conducted.

4. Employed full-time by the same company for at least 3 years.

A letter from your employer’s Human Resources (HR) or Personnel Department on letterhead is required. The letter may be presented in person or faxed to 225-389-4856 and must include:

  • Status - Full-time, Permanent (Part-time or Temporary not allowed)
  • Date of Hire

Employment verifications sent by co-workers, supervisors, or local managers will NOT be given the same consideration as those from HR or Personnel.

If you are self-employed, three years of tax returns for the business are required.

All of this information will be presented to the Duty Judge for final approval. Judges DO NOT operate on a set time frame. The Bail Bond Program cannot and will not make any predictions as to when a Judge will review a request or how long the process may take.

NOTE: As the personal surety, you are taking the responsibility to ensure that the accused will make ALL court appearances until the conclusion of the case. If the individual misses any court appearance, you may be liable for the entire bond amount.

This office will only discuss the progress of requests with the qualifier IN PERSON.
