Mission Statement

The mission of the 19th Judicial District Recovery Court Program is to enhance public safety by providing court supervised treatment and recovery services to participants through education and accountability with the goal of enriching lives, increasing self-esteem, and reducing stigma.

Philosophy

It is the belief of the 19th JDC Recovery Court Team that the criminal justice population in East Baton Rouge Parish, and surrounding areas, has a substance use involvement which is a primary factor in the causation of crime within East Baton Rouge Parish.  The 19th JDC Recovery Court Team will provide judicial monitoring, legal support, outpatient substance use treatment, supervision through Probation and Parole, and the support of Law Enforcement with the objective of reducing the rate of incarceration in East Baton Rouge Parish.  Our goal is to help participants free themselves of addictive disorders and criminal behavior.

Alcoholism and substance dependency are regarded as diseases with multiple causations that may involve emotional, physiological, environmental and maladaptive factors.

We believe in utilizing appropriate treatment techniques and available resources (family, friends, employers, community, and evidence-based treatment).  We also believe that structuring a suitable recovery environment will enable our participants to learn how to live a productive life free from dependency on alcohol or drugs and criminal behavior.
