The 19th Judicial District Court is taking an important step forward to address a growing concern within the Louisiana judicial system — the critical shortage of Certified Court Reporters. On behalf of the court, Chief Judge Donald Johnson has officially signed a Resolution highlighting the urgent need for action and collaboration to combat this issue.
Certified Court Reporters are essential to the fair and accurate administration of justice. They ensure the precise recording of courtroom proceedings, which supports appeals, protects the rights of litigants, and preserves the integrity of our legal system. However, courts across Louisiana — including our own — are facing a significant decline in the availability of qualified reporters.
This Resolution acknowledges the strain this shortage places on court operations and emphasizes the need to attract and retain skilled professionals. It also calls upon state and local stakeholders, educational institutions, and professional organizations to partner in developing sustainable solutions — from training opportunities to recruitment incentives.
The 19th JDC remains committed to ensuring the effective delivery of justice and hopes this Resolution will serve as a catalyst for statewide action.
